One person may need coax, Ethernet, HDMI, and RCA while another wants nothing in the world more than a VGA, Optical, and RJ11 plate. Keystone plates are one option when it comes to custom wall plates, but they’re not the only choice you have. Decora wall plates were made famous by Leviton initially as a replacement for standard toggle light switches.

Brick and cement walls are especially challenging, but that doesn’t mean you’re out of options. With a surface mount box like the SINGLE-GANG, you can create a way to attach wall plates without having to cut into your wall. Any low voltage wall plate will work: keystone, speaker, decora, HDMI. Just attach the wall plate to this single gang box like you would any other low voltage bracket using the two machine-threaded screw casings.

The SINGLE-GANG is designed for surface use and is not meant to be recessed fully into the wall. It offers several points of access for running your cables to it and through it. There are two rectangular knock-outs for use with Raceway cable cover systems and a 1.25” opening for conduit. The 45-0021 recessed low voltage cable plate with recessed power can be installed upright or upside down.

Use either a single gang retrofit work box or for new construction installations, use a new nail on box. Once you have wired the receptacle*, then begin by inserting the receptacle portion of the plate into the work box. Once the entire recessed plate is flush to the wall, using the two white screws supplied, screw the receptacle portion of the plate to the work box. Next, screw down the screws with wings. These wings will fasten tightly against the back of the drywall. Plug in all necessary video and audio cables. Install your flat panel TV mounting bracket per the flat panel TV bracket manufacturer’s instructions.
