There’s no avoiding them, not at home or at work. You need wires for your entertainment center, your network, and chances are there are wires all over the inside of your computer. Especially in a professional setting, no one wants to see a careless cord cluster. Messy cables aren’t just aesthetically unappealing- they can also cause injury or damage. We’ve all tripped over a cord on the floor that shouldn’t have been there, and pets are especially prone to snacking on loose wires. Even if no one interferes, tangled cables can impede proper air circulation which is especially harmful to the delicate circuits in electronic equipment.
Cable management is important, and although it can seem tedious, it doesn’t have to be. There are many ways to bundle up your renegade cords, but cable ties- also called zip-ties- are the most common method. They’re easy, economical, and designed to last. We are not talking about your breakfast cereal today. No! We are talking about serial technology. Computers have used Serial communication for many years, though not as widely used in today’s market. When most people refer to serial, they think of the DB9 cable. It is referred to as DB9 because it carries 9 pins within it. DB9 was typically used for devices such as gamepads, mice, keyboards, or other such interface devices.
What we have here is a FireFold brand 6 foot DB9 male to female serial null-modem cable. Null modems are usually used to connect DTE (data terminal equipment) like terminals or printers using an RS-232 cable. Originally, the RS-232 standard was developed and used for teleprinter machines that could communicate over phone lines.
