The Difference between Gold-Plated HDMI Cables and Regular HDMI Cables
Do you want to get the best high-speed HDMI cable but do not know the difference between gold-plated and regular HDMI cables? In general HDMI cables range in price from as low as a few dollars to a hundred dollars. While gold-plated cables may sound pricey, they are quite affordable. Many believe that there isn’t anything special about gold-plated HDMI cables that make them different from regular HDMI cables. However, there are many differences, and we’ll help you to understand them.

Higher grade cables

Gold-plated HDMI cables are of a higher grade, and they are better and larger conductors. They boast better shielding and are even more durable than regular HDMI cables. It is also true that gold-plated ends will not have the oxidation that may be found in regular HDMI cables.

Consumer electronics

For consumers with LED/LCD, 3D TVs and so on, gold-plated HDMI cables can provide more visual quality than regular HDMI cables based on their former experience with analog SCART as well as element connectors. Although it is true that gold-plated cables are superior to regular cables, probably the main difference is the maximum bandwidth. While regular cables can achieve maximum transfers of 10 Gbit/s, a gold-plated cable can go up to 17 Gbit/s.

Commercial application

If you use your cables for commercial purposes, and you connect and disconnect them on a daily or regular basis, then gold-plated HDMI cables might be the ideal choice. Gold-plated cables are not only beefier in construction, but they are also gold-coated to protect them from different elements. Although gold-plated cables are advantageous and even required like professional grade electronics, regular HDMI cables can provide decent picture quality. However, gold-plated is always better. Gold-plated cables provide the same image quality as the source – high quality. Also, there is a theoretical improvement in clarity of the signals being transmitted as gold-plated cables are better conductors of electricity compared to regular HDMI cables. Whatever cable you choose, you may not notice the difference through your eyes or ears, as the main differences between gold-plated HDMI cables and regular HDMI cables are mostly technical. However, all in all, when it comes to durability and conductivity, gold-plated cables win.
