Kendall Howard Fixed V-Line Wall Mount Rack - 12" Depth

I purchased four of the 16U racks to install in a small home closet. The quality of the black powder-coat was very good. The coating was even, had no blemishes, and was very scratch-resistant. When assembled and attached to my closet walls, each rack was rigid and secure. I can easily see each rack holding its rated 300 lb. limit.

I chose to use all eight anchor tabs for mounting. Although rack itself assembles fairly square, my recommendation is to use a level during mounting, i.e., to ensure the front horizontal and vertical trusses are level. Here is the procedure I used:

[1] I secured one of the top-most anchor pads with a screw and washer. The screw was positioned at the end of the slot in the 12 o’clock position.
[2] Using a level on the top of the front horizontal truss, I determined the screw position of the second top-most anchor pad.
[3] I secured the second top-most anchor pad with a screw and washer. The screw was positioned at the end of the slot in the 12 o’clock position.

Once the top-most anchor pads were secure, I continued with the remaining anchor pads. However, before securing the left- and right-side anchor pads, I checked each vertical truss with the level. I also used the slot in each anchor pad that would allow the screw to be furthest out (i.e., 9 o’clock slot for the left-side anchor pads, the 3 o’clock slot right-side anchor pads, and the 6 o’clock slot with bottom-most anchor pads).

I wish Kendall Howard would have provided information on compatible screws. The gap of each slot is ¼” wide and thus allows a #10 thread (at maximum). I used #10 sheet-metal screws that were 2” long and had rounded Phillips-heads. To match the black power-coat, I selected screws with a black oxide finish (McMaster-Carr 90935A260). I also used #10 black oxide washers with a standard O.D. of 0.438 inch (McMaster-Carr 96765A125). However, in retrospect, I whould have chosen a slightly over-sized #10 washer, such as a 0.500” O.D washer. (McMaster-Carr 90377A123).
