When it comes to home theater equipment, we all want to hold onto what we’ve got. Receivers especially are built to last. HDMI has taken over the world of audio-video technology, but any receiver purchased before 2003- and some purchased much later- do not have any way to connect to HDMI. That doesn’t mean you should have to buy expensive replacements or tolerate analog video. If your devices don’t have a separate audio output, the only way to separate the audio from an HDMI cable is by using a converting device like Vanco’s 280573 HDMI Audio Extractor.

This HDMI Audio Extractor accepts a single HDMI in. The video is carried along to the HDMI which you would then plug straight into your television. For the audio out, you have several options. For digitally compatible receivers, there is an optical and a digital coax slot. 3.5mm is the analog output, which can be changed to left and right RCA with a small, simple adapter. There are buttons on the side to change the output to either 5.1 for the digital options or 2-channel for analog.

The HDMI output on the 280573 audio extractor is fully HDCP compliant and leaves all high-resolution and 3D features intact. Set-up is simple and the small size means you can neatly hide it. The PulseAudio PA-EXTDA is a digital-analog audio extender over a single Cat5e/6.
